Tree Pruning

Arbor Guy at all times avoids unacceptable pruning practices such as lopping and topping for the following reasons:

  • They increase the rate of shoot production and elongation
  • Regrowth is weakly attached and becomes prone to failure
  • They predispose trees to fungal infections, insect attack and decay
  • The natural habit of the tree is destroyed and its lifespan may be reduced

At Arbor Guy, prior to works being prescribed or undertaken, thorough inspections are carried out by a person competent in arboricultural assessment. All works are performed by experienced, qualified and competent operators.

The types of pruning Arbor Guy performs include:

  • Crown lifting, modification, thinning
  • Selective/Hazard (including service, HV and LV powerline clearance)
  • Remedial (restorative)
  • Reduction
  • Formative
  • Deadwooding

Root Pruning

Tree roots may impact on infrastructure and when other management other options have been exhausted, Arbor Guy is able to perform root pruning.

At Arbor Guy, root pruning is always undertaken by a qualified arborist. Where possible, Arbor Guy locates and exposes roots using minimally destructive techniques such as and digging and air spading.

Habitat Pruning

Approximately 300+ species of wildlife use tree hollows throughout Australia. Tree hollows are of great importance as they are used as nesting sites, shelters and safe refuges. Hollows can present as a small crack or split to very a large cavity in the tree. (Gibbons & Lindenmayer, 2002).

Arbor Guy has undertaken thousands of habitat creation projects including coronet and fracture prunes, hollow relocation and manufactured hollow installations.

Tree Removals

Trees afford significant social, environmental and economic benefits.
Arbor Guy is committed to doing its part in preserving tree canopy coverage which requires sustainable and responsible management of tree assets. Unfortunately, at times, trees may pose an unreasonable risk to the community.

Some reasons that a tree may need to be removed are listed below:

  • The tree is dead/dying/diseased and cannot be treated effectively
  • The tree has structural flaws and is placing the public at unacceptable risk
  • The tree is interfering with essential services
  • The tree is causing damage to structures

Arbor Guy’s qualified arborists can provide advice regarding trees and whether or not they pose an unacceptable risk.

Felling and removing trees can be a dangerous task, for your safety these activities should only be undertaken by a competent, qualified and insured arborist.

Tree bracing

Tree support systems are used to provide supplemental support to leaders and individual branches by limiting movement.

When a tree has a structural defect or condition that poses a high risk of failure which may result in injury or property damage, a supplemental support system can often reduce the risk.

As Certified Arborists, it is our responsibility to safeguard people, property, and the environment from potentially hazardous trees and to extend the life of trees with high amenity and/or heritage values.

Our arborists can assess your trees for defects and if necessary, recommend and install a bracing system specific to the individual trees requirements.
